Nokia S60 3rd Edition iSync plugin

Tagged:

If you have a Nokia S60 3rd Edition phone that's not yet supported by iSync, we may have you covered...

While reading a review of the Nokia N73 on Mobile Tech Review, a phone that iSync has yet to support out of the box, there was a link to .MacTomster, (or click here for a Google translated english version.

Tom is a German Mac and Symbian phone enthusiast who’s written an iSync plugin for a number of S60 phones. He’s also an Audi fan, but I won’t hold that against him as a lover of Bimmers.

The plugin adds iSync support for the following phones:

  • E50, E60, E61, E70

  • N71, N72, N73, N80, N91, N92, N93

  • 3250, 5500 sport

  • 6131, 6233, 6234

You can find the download page here and in English here.

If it works for you, leave a comment below.

He’s providing this plugin for free, so if this helps you out, show the guy some love with a PayPal donation! (even if he does prefer Audi’s!).

5500 Syncs, but can’t connect with address book
Posted by rbartels at 2006-10-10 10:28
When I push the pair button in Address book, I always have to select a phone (although I deleted my older phones) and have to type a key. Then nothing happens. I can browse the device via the bluetooth drop down, I can iSync. I can’t find out what I’m doing wrong. I’ve used address book for ages (years) to send my sms messaged. Any tip?

Beautiful

This plugin worked great for me on a Nokia N80. I’m in the US on Cingular, but purchased the phone from saberpoint and had no problems whatsoever.

works great… big thanks…

Works also for 5500 sport
Posted by Anonymous User at 2006-10-19 10:11
I saw someone wrote that it didn’t work for the 5500. It does for me. Besides, the rumour that Apple now supports the 5500 in 10.4.8 seems false, so for me this plugin is still the only way to connect.

Nokia 5500 Sport

Got a brand new Nokia 5500 sport today; was very annoyed that I couldn’t use iSync. This plug-in is “tops”. I had to go through the german site to find the download, as I couldn’t find it on the translated version. But as long as you follow the instructions it works absolutely fine.

Many thanks

Stalls and stops in the middle
Posted by Anonymous User at 2007-01-23 07:48
I got the plug-in, but the sync keeps stalling in the middle and then I get an error messege…

…not that the error message is informative in any way. It says: “There was an error pushing some changes to the phone. The synchronization may have been cancelled on the phone.”

Did anyone experience troubles with this issue and manage to find a solution or a workaround?

P.S.

I am using a MacBook Pro with the N73. Some of the data may contain unicode… which I doubt to be of an issue.

which version?
Posted by admin at 2007-01-23 12:00
any idea which version you used. i read on mactomster’s website that on jan. 11, he updated the plugins. you should make sure first that yours is up-to-date.

N73 - problems too
Posted by Anonymous User at 2007-02-05 13:16
I have also some problems with the N73. Each phone number labeled as “other” is copied to the phone and in the next sync is deleted from the Mac (if I allow that operation, I get a warning pointing that 90 contacts will be modified in the computer).

I must say that I live in Spain, so “other” is actually labeled as “otro”.

N73 I Sync … Still!
Posted by Anonymous User at 2007-02-21 19:16
Hey everyone, I spent most of my evening trying to sort this iSync with my N73 out. Basically without dragging the folder from the german guy into my library i get a phone icon in my iSync with a red ! by it.

When I drag this folder in to the library thats meant to fix this then the phone is recognized as a N73, however there is still a random phone with an ! in my iSync window. I’ve tried lots of methods of doing this? And I pretty much followed the guys instructions, just got this mac today too. Any suggestions?

Cheers!

hope this helps

Here are some tips:

In iSync, click on the device with the (red !). From the Devices menu, select Remove Device. To get things totally clean, let’s do the same for the N73 without a (red !) by it, that works, and remove the device.

Next from the Devices menu, select Reset All Devices.

Assuming this is a new computer and you don’t have anything else like dotmac sync’d with it, let’s just start over with iSync and the Mac OS X syncing services. We do this by deleting some folders. In Finder, go to your user Library folder (not the Library folder in Macintosh HD, but the one listed in your individual user account), and in “Application Support” folder, find and throw away both your “iSync “folder and your “SyncServices” folders. Empty the trash once you’ve done this. Back in the Library folder, look for the “PhonePlugin” and delete any plugin folders you may have dropped in there.

Now, restart your computer. When you restart, you should drag the N73 plugin from the Mac Tom guy into the folder he has indicated—probably “PhonePlugin” in your user Library folder. Next, run thru the setup of having iSync discover your device, by starting iSync and in the Devices menu, select “Add Device.” Hopefully, iSync will use the plugin created by Mac Tom and set things up correctly.

Good Luck,
Alex

N73 charging also…
Posted by Anonymous User at 2007-03-04 22:52
I’m getting this as well, I need the N73 to sync with my Mac. I can’t see anywhere else on the site that realates to payment except a little bit about PayPal donations.

Surely if this guy is asking for donations, he shouldn’t be charging for the plugins as well. Well, he can but I don’t think he’d be very popular!

Price Tag here as well…
Posted by Anonymous User at 2007-03-06 13:56
I am trying to download the 5500 plugin and I am too presented with the above mentioned tag price. I hope there is some information about the issue. Forcing people to pay isn’t considered “Donation”. As a sidenote, if someone could provide me with a direct link, I would be greatful.

found it

Official Nokia iSync plugins for Mac

How about trying the official iSync plug-ins for Mac by Nokia

if you've got a Windows Mobile Phone, 3rd party software is a must. After installing, you'll have to restart. I've gotten used to not having to restart for non-critical apps on the Mac, so I found this to be a bit of a pain. Oh well. After you've restarted, this is when you should pair the MPx220 with the Mac. You'll have to start by putting the phone in bluetooth discover mode--the bluetooth settings are found in the "Settings" menu. Otherwise, this process is just like before, only there are fewer options to select--you can only select the phone as a data modem (which I'll explain in Day Two). After you've setup the phone with Bluetooth, on the phone find the ActiveSync, click options, and select "Connect via Bluetooth." Automatically, your Mac should respond by displaying a shadowy system message showing the progress of the connection. After it has connected, the Missing Sync application will launch, and run you through a simple setup process. You can choose which applications you want the MPx220 to sync with--among Address Book, iCal, and Entourage.
